How to install coiled rubber flooring?

02/09/2025

Rubber flooring is environmentally friendly, non-slip, wear-resistant, lightweight, and easy to clean. Its use is growing, making it a popular flooring material. Rubber flooring comes in two main categories: rolls and sheets. So how is roll rubber flooring installed? How is it installed? Sena Rubber Flooring has compiled a list of rubber flooring installation methods for your reference.

The roll rubber flooring installation process includes: 1. Base inspection; 2. Base cleaning; 3. Self-leveling application; 4. Self-leveling sanding and cleaning; 5. Cutting the roll rubber flooring; 6. Tailoring the rubber flooring; 7. Applying glue; 8. Bonding; 9. Rolling, trimming, site cleanup, and completion.

1. Base Inspection - Check the base for flatness, hardness, and sanding. Develop a construction strategy tailored to the specific base. If the base is more than 5mm flat, it will be difficult for the self-leveling to achieve the required level. Effective solutions include applying two or more coats of self-leveling, refinishing the base, or sanding with a grinder. For severely sandy or weak foundations, permeable polyurethane reinforcement can be used.

2. Foundation Cleaning - Use a fine broom or industrial vacuum cleaner to clean any loose dust from the surface. Remove any dust lumps. If the corners are uneven, sand them.

3. Self-Leveling Application - First, apply a primer based on the foundation's conditions. Dilute with water in the appropriate ratio and apply two to three passes horizontally and vertically with a wool roller. Allow any surface water to evaporate before applying the self-leveling. Pour the mixed self-leveling evenly onto the floor. Use a dedicated self-leveling scraper (also called a self-leveling rake, with scraping teeth of at least 5mm) to spread the self-leveling evenly, while rolling and pressing with a self-leveling defoaming roller.

4. Self-Leveling Sanding - After the self-leveling surface is completely dry, sand the surface. Use fine sandpaper on the sander to remove loose dust. A good self-leveling surface will have a shiny finish. 5. Cutting the Rubber Flooring: According to the construction drawings and in conjunction with the on-site dimensions, cut the flooring rolls. The length should be 2 cm longer to prevent uneven top edges and insufficient material. Pre-lay the cut flooring rolls in the designated area, with each flooring piece overlapping by 2 cm. If the construction area is small, a special fish-shaped hook knife can be used to trim the edges. Don't rush the next steps at this point; wait until the flooring rolls have been set for 24 hours before proceeding with seamless cutting.

6. Seamless Cutting: Seamless cutting is a skilled process requiring experienced craftsmen. Use a special seamless push knife or a seamless knife track. The knife should be positioned in the middle of the overlap between each flooring piece. Maintain a consistent technique and pressure.

7. Gluing: Use a special scraper to evenly apply glue. Use different scraper teeth for different floor thicknesses. For 2 mm rubber flooring rolls, use an A2 scraper tooth. Change the scraper teeth frequently based on usage. 8. Pasting - Wait until the glue has cooled sufficiently before paving. (Cooling time varies depending on the site environment. Most sites use a touch-and-feel method to determine if the glue is ready for paving. Touch the glue lightly with your hand. It should be tacky but not sticky before paving.) At least two people are required to lay each tile, ensuring the gaps are tightly closed.

9. Rolling - Use a 50kg large iron roller to roll the tiles seamlessly, ensuring they are firmly in place. Also use a hand roller to press gaps and corners. Any corners that are not fully closed should be properly closed. Finally, clear the site of debris.
